Travel itinerary

Arrival individually to the capital of Slavonia, the charming city of Osijek

At 5 p.m. the tour guide will welcome you at the centrally located boutique hotel in the old town. Then take a tour of the historic old town. Osijek is the largest city in Eastern Croatia on the banks of Drava River.

Start our journey in the Osijek Old Town – Tvrđa which is the best preserved and largest ensemble of Baroque buildings in Croatia with the Habsburg star fort built on the right bank of the Drava River. Visiting the Upper City with the main square, the late Gothic Cathedral, historical buildings, fancy shops, restaurants and taste the famous Croatian coffee dinner in the historical quarter.

Osijek – Apatin: 69 km

After a hearty breakfast, you can explore a bit Osijek the capital of Slavonia which is the largest city in Eastern Croatia with on the banks of Drava River.

Start your journey in the Osijek Old Town – Tvrđa which is the best preserved and largest ensemble of Baroque buildings in Croatia with the Habsburg star fort built on the right bank of the Drava River. Visit the Upper City with the main square, the late Gothic Cathedral, historical buildings cross the scenic bicycle bridge and leave Osijek behind towards Erdut a famous wine growing region.

The route runs to the Nemetin industrial zone and further to Sarvaš, where you follow the main route to the tributary in Aljmaš rit, where a River’s cool has been set up. After a few kilometers you will come across one of the most interesting natural phenomena in the region – the confluence of the Drava and Danube rivers. The impressive view of the confluence of these two rivers will remain in your memory. Meanwhile, the shrine of Our Lady of Refuge (Gospa od Utočišta) in Aljmaš will not only make Catholic hearts beat faster. The Marian shrine from 1704 is one of the most important places of pilgrimage in Slavonia and a favorite shrine of Catholics.

You cross the Border to Serbia and start your journey through the Gornje Podunavlje nature reserve. Enjoy the unparalleled mosaic of aquatic, wetland, and terrestrial ecosystems along the way, and discover breathtaking views of the Drava and Danube rivers. Next to the Čarda “Golden Crown” (Zlatna Kruna) and the orthodox church “Council of the Holy Apostles” the route leads to the brewery of Apatin and to the city center. Your ride on this leg ends in the enchanting Nikola Tesla Square, where you can relax before visiting the numerous cultural sites of Apatin.

Apatin – Sombor – Bezdán – Mohács: 80 km

After breakfast you are passing the marina of Apatin by and heading towards Sombor. Near Kupusina you will see the most beautiful channels and branches of the Danube. Have a good local beer at the Carda in Kupusina and swim by the beach. The charming little town of Sombor hints at the influence of the region’s Austro-Hungarian Empire with some of its older buildings and offers plenty of cultural attractions, green spaces and beautiful architecture around every street corner.

Have a lunch break here, then you can head towards Bezdán a mainly Hungarian majority settlement with a lot of history and the best Fish soup in the whole Serbia.

Then we cross the border to Hungary cycling through the Karapancsa area and use the ferry to get to Mohács. Your way can take you from here to Zmajevac to the guesthouse or you can cycle through the Danube bridge to Croatia. Zmajevac is famous of its wine festivals and beautiful cellar rows.

Mohács – Draz – Zmajevac

After visiting the Busó-court in Mohács, we start biking on the Danube dyke and crossing the beautiful wetland area of Béda.

We can now cross the green-border to Croatia and reach a nice picturesque village of Draz. Cycling up the hill of Batina get to the famous outlook point and rolling down to Zmajevac which is famous its cellars and wines. We spend the night here.

Zmajevac – Kopački Rit – Osijek: 49 km

Today you are heading to the heart of the Kopački Rit Nature Park. The Kopački rit area is characterized by exceptional scenic beauty and great biological diversity. It lies at the confluence of the Drava and Danube rivers and is one of the largest preserved natural wetlands in Europe. It also boasts the largest inland delta of the Danube.

Hidden behind dense oak and maple forests is the Tikveš hunting lodge, the former residence of the Habsburg kings. After the end of this noble family, the President of Yugoslavia used the castle for relaxation and for hunting trips with friends and other politicians. Leaving the former Tito castle in Tikveš cycling trough the most intact part of the nature park.

At the Sakadas lake you will have a boat tour to enjoy the wetland area before you cross Bilje and arrive back to your starting point in Osijek.
